Dear Colleagues,
I am so excited to announce that I have recently created more professional capacity in my life to take on additional private conducting students and offer professional coaching services. The last few years, I have been feeling a great calling to give back to the profession and pass along the tremendous insights I’ve learned from five major conducting teachers, my own experience, and the treasure trove of information my world-class Spire Chamber Ensemble and Baroque Orchestra colleagues have shared with me for now 14 years. If you have ever wanted to study choral conducting or if you are a veteran conductor seeking additional possibilities and perspectives to fill up the toolbox, I’m here to help and journey with you! Studying conducting provides real-time and in-depth suggestions on how to improve the gesture to make it as specific, musical, and impactful as possible. I will be teaching via Zoom and in Kansas City if you are within driving distance. Lessons can be weekly, monthly, occasionally, or whatever works best for you and my rates are reasonable. Here are a few possibilities I can help with:
My rate for private lessons is $50/hour. Consider adding private lessons or coaching sessions as a part of your professional development. I would love to work with you. Please inquire via email. |
TESTIMONIALS
“Observing Ben Spalding’s teaching, one sees mastery in his approach to conducting with concise, informative, and inventive teaching methods. His instructional tools put the conductor at ease while evoking the best from them. Most impressive is Maestro Spalding’s knowledge of working with the chorus and orchestra. Conductors come away from masterclasses with ideas to fill their “toolbelt” - artfully conveying their musical intentions to work collaboratively with singers and players." "Maestro Ben Spalding weds the highest professional artistic standards with encouraging and inspiring pedagogical insights. His work with both beginners and emerging professionals is a model for the future of conductor preparation." “Ben A. Spalding truly is a human to model after. He has been an excellent mentor to me through my 2023-2024 Spire Chamber Ensemble Conducting Fellowship. Every student at the Choral Conducting Institute can testify along with ensemble members that he *always* leads with compassion and strong humility, wielding a depth of knowledge for the noble purpose of empowering and inspiring people to be more efficient, more clear, more expressive, and more meaningful. He is honest, transparent, and sincerely helpful. Through all of my time with him, I have only grown more and more in admiration of him. He deeply cares about his craft and personally pursues it in the most excellent way, and above all, he cares about the people he is connecting with through music.” |
